Senior Software Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Developer based in India.

The Senior Software Developer will design, develop, and maintain software solutions that power complex visual effects production workflows. Working alongside developers, technical directors, and creative professionals, you will transform production requirements into reliable tools and systems that improve efficiency and collaboration. You will contribute to software architecture, lead technical projects, and ensure that solutions remain scalable, maintainable, and aligned with production needs. This hands-on role combines advanced Python and C++ development with technical decision-making, troubleshooting, and mentoring. You will also collaborate with teams across different business functions to identify opportunities for automation and workflow improvements. The position requires working Montreal business hours (Eastern Time), including seasonal daylight-saving time changes.

You will take ownership of software development initiatives that strengthen production pipelines, improve operational workflows, and maintain high engineering standards.

• Software Development & Pipeline Automation

  • Design, develop, and maintain tools and systems that streamline workflows, automate tasks, and connect applications across visual effects production pipelines.

  • Build reliable, maintainable software solutions using Python, C++, and appropriate development frameworks.

  • Identify opportunities to improve existing tools, eliminate manual processes, and enhance production efficiency.

  • Software Architecture & Technical Leadership

    • Design scalable and maintainable software architectures using appropriate design patterns and sound engineering principles.

    • Apply object-oriented design and SOLID principles while balancing long-term technical needs with immediate production priorities.

    • Take ownership of technical decisions and development projects, ensuring solutions meet functional and operational requirements.

    • Break down projects into manageable tasks, estimate effort, identify dependencies and risks, and communicate progress to support planning and prioritization.

    • Quality Assurance & System Reliability

      • Write clear, efficient, and well-tested code that meets established engineering standards.

      • Participate in code reviews and promote consistent coding practices, automated testing, and Test-Driven Development where appropriate.

      • Investigate software defects and integration challenges, identify root causes, and implement lasting solutions.

      • Improve application reliability, performance, and usability through continuous technical refinement.

      • Cross-Functional Collaboration

        • Work closely with developers, technical directors, artists, production teams, and stakeholders across finance, HR, and other business functions.

        • Translate operational and creative requirements into practical technical solutions.

        • Identify workflow improvements and develop integrations that connect business applications and production systems.

        • Mentoring & Documentation

          • Provide technical guidance and constructive feedback to other developers.

          • Support knowledge sharing and contribute to stronger engineering practices across the team.

          • Maintain clear technical documentation to facilitate adoption, maintenance, and continuity.

          Requirements

          The ideal candidate is an experienced software developer with strong technical expertise, a solid understanding of software architecture, and the ability to independently deliver complex systems while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

          • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and maintaining complex software systems.

          • Strong proficiency in Python and C++, with experience building and supporting production-grade applications.

          • Solid understanding of software architecture, object-oriented programming, design patterns, and SOLID principles.

          • Experience making technical decisions and delivering development projects independently.

          • Practical experience with automated testing, including unit and integration testing, and familiarity with Test-Driven Development.

          • Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows, including code reviews.

          • Ability to translate complex business and technical requirements into practical, scalable, and maintainable solutions.

          • Strong analytical, debugging, and troubleshooting skills, with attention to software reliability, performance, and usability.

          • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside both technical and creative professionals.

          • Experience mentoring developers, providing technical guidance, and sharing knowledge.

          • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

          • Availability to work Montreal business hours (Eastern Time), including seasonal daylight-saving time adjustments.

          Additional assets:

          • Experience in visual effects, animation, or a related production environment.

          • Experience developing tools and integrations for payroll, HRIS, or financial services systems.

          • Familiarity with Clean Architecture, CQRS, or other software architecture approaches.

          • Experience with cloud services supporting production pipelines.

          • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and project management tools such as Jira or Asana.
