As a Senior General Ledger Accountant, you will play a key role in managing and strengthening accounting operations across a growing, multi-entity, multi-campus organization. You will oversee general ledger activities, support monthly financial closings, and contribute to accurate and timely financial reporting. Working closely with the Controller and cross-functional teams, you will help ensure financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and effective internal controls. You will also drive accounting process improvements, leveraging technology and automation to streamline workflows and support organizational growth. This position offers the opportunity to combine hands-on accounting expertise with broader operational impact in a fast-paced, mission-driven educational environment. The role is fully remote and operates on a full-time schedule.

Accountabilities

  • Support daily accounting operations and contribute actively to the monthly and quarterly financial closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.

  • Consolidate and report monthly financial information across multiple entities, campuses, and locations.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger records, prepare journal entries, and ensure proper documentation of accounting transactions.

  • Perform regular account reconciliations, review balance sheet accounts, investigate discrepancies, and ensure the accuracy of asset and liability balances.

  • Conduct month-over-month and budget-versus-actual variance analyses, identifying unusual fluctuations and providing explanations to support financial decision-making.

  • Collaborate with the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team to improve budgeting practices and strengthen financial reporting processes.

  • Contribute to the preparation and review of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

  • Ensure financial reporting complies with US GAAP and applicable Department of Education and Title IV regulatory requirements.

  • Support internal and external audits, including annual financial audits and federal compliance audits, while maintaining accounting policies and internal control documentation.

  • Identify and implement opportunities to optimize accounting operations through system enhancements, workflow improvements, and automation, particularly within platforms such as NetSuite and Ramp.

  • Develop scalable accounting processes and reporting tools that support organizational expansion while reducing manual work and minimizing errors.

  • Collaborate with campus operations, financial aid, FP&A, and other departments to ensure effective communication, accountability, and consistency across financial processes.

  • Contribute to a collaborative and performance-oriented accounting environment, taking ownership of assigned responsibilities and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification is considered an advantage.

    • At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including a minimum of 3 years in an internal corporate accounting environment.

    • Previous Big Four or comparable public accounting experience is a plus.

    • Strong knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards.

    • Proven experience managing general ledger activities, preparing journal entries, performing balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting month-end and year-end closing processes.

    • Solid understanding of asset and liability account reconciliations, sub-ledger systems, and the relationships between financial statements.

    • Experience with accounting and ERP platforms, with NetSuite strongly preferred. Familiarity with Ramp is highly desirable.

    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams.

    • Experience supporting budgeting, financial analysis, internal controls, and audit processes.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with exceptional attention to detail and the capacity to identify discrepancies and recommend practical solutions.

    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both finance professionals and non-financial stakeholders.

    • High levels of integrity, professionalism, accountability, and initiative, combined with a strong work ethic and goal-oriented mindset.

    • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.

    • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends when required by business needs or management requests.

    • Benefits:

      • Annual salary: $80,000–$110,000, depending on qualifications, professional experience, and geographic location.
